The price was good for a hotel just 25mind walk from royal mile, i paid £52 per night. There was a great shower, the bed was very comfortable, and a good tv/dvd player in the room.

There was no mention of loud music yet there were private functions o bothFridayand Saturday night which went on until 0100, very loud in room. Room decor was good but starting to fall apart. Bedside lamps didn't work. Dripping tap in bathroom. Breakfast was served over two hours but it wad very basic. We arrived half an hour before breakfast finished and there wasn't much left. The hot water for drinks is in a thermos flask and was only warm when we got there.

The worst stay in a hotel ever. Do not book this hotel. We had booked the hotel for the last night of our honeymoon. In the hotel there was a birthday party booked for the same night. The band was playing so loud for the whole night right downstairs that we had to yell to hear each other. We complained several times about the noice but it didn't help at all. The staff lied to us that the manager would come and talk to us, but he never came. The hotel had wanted us to pay in advance. We would have never payed for something like this, having a birthday party in our room on our honeymoon. The hotel manager promised to refund us on the telephone, but we haven't seen the money.

The meadows is great value for money and ideal for a one night stay. We just had a standard double room which was quite small but fully functional. The bed was really comfy and shower great, all you really need for a one night stopover.

The continental breakfast was quite poor, hard croissants and no replenishments of what was available. My partner opted for the full English breakfast, was freshly cooked and he really enjoyed it.

We found the staff at The Meadows Hotel really pleasant and helpful always there when we needed them. We were in Edinburgh for the Tattoo and had stayed in The Meadows last year. We really enjoyed our stay and were made most welcome by staff. Regards Audrey McFarlane

We felt the hotel needed a bit of TLC as it is beginning to look a bit drab, it could be such a lovely place.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was welcoming and clean. Good basic bathroom accessories. Good value for money.

Everythng was fine. Breakfast was ok. Would have liked some hot toast and fresh coffee (but cant please everyone!). There was lovely pastries on offer. No complaints.

Location was good and restaurant very nicely decorated.

Room could do with refurbishing. The window sill obviously had a leak at some point. The wood was all warped and blistered. Same with a bath panel that we kept stubbing our toes on everytime we turned around. It was not fixed to the floor. The toilet seat was no affixed properly and kept moving everytime you sat on it. Please don't provide freeview when the aerial is hanging down across the wall and it is impossible to get a signal on any channel apart from one music one. One member of staff not exactly helpful. Upon returning from wedding at 0130am we asked him a question regarding different check out times for our room and our friends, who replied "I finished at 5pm so ask someone else". Perhaps he should drink elsewhere after work so not to be bothered by guests?, Next morning, he made no offer of cooked breakfast, although our friends were offered it on the Saturday. It may be the fact he was at the hotel until the early hours that he perhaps could not be bothered cooking that early the next day?

The staff were friendly and helpful. The locaiton was very good for us, as we were going to the University.

The condition of the room was poor. It was clean, but the furniture and fiitings were very old - needs a good refurbishment. However, for the cost, it was reasonable. The breakfast was mediocre, but again, for the cost in Central Edinburgh, I guess it was reasonable.

Low cost for a room that was so small we could hardly move in it. No room to place luggage, no phone, no clock, defective tv (they replaced it quickly on request), intermitment WiFi in the room but strong signal in the public area. It takes 20 minutes to walk to downtown so if you do not mind walking and want to go on a budget this place is fine. It would have been nicer to stay close to downtown.

Clean with well equipped bathroom and superb shower. Room was compact but adequate for overnight stay. Room was also quiet despite rugby playing on the TV in the downstairs bar.

Although the hotel was clean it was a little battered looking in places and could do with a lick of paint to tidy some areas up.

When we arrived the guy on reception was very friendly and helpful.

The room was heavily over-priced. We paid more for one night in a noisy, poorly furnished and shabby room, than we would've for a nice hotel in central London. Prices were obviously inflated due to the festival being on in Edinburgh. The curtains weren't hung on the rail properly, so we were unable to close them properly. The bathroom was desperately in need of a makeover - rotting wooden skirting board had fallen down and just left. It was also very noisy well into the early hours of the morning - our room was above the bar/dining area, so there was a continuous noise of clanging plates and glass bottles. Overall the room felt unclean and well under par for £125 a night.

The Meadows hotel is handy for the Queens Hall as it is 5 mins away. The prices for the food and drinks was reasonable. Staff were professional and there were some nice design touches.

The room we had was cold as the windows were huge and were not double glazed. There was a large radiator but it was behind the curtains and it was difficult to achieve a happy medium. Our room was also very small and would not have stayed there any longer than the one night, would have been ok for a single person though. We paid less than £50 for the night and that included a continental breakfast and you only get what you pay for. The breakfast was basic and it would have been good to have a better variety of cereals/juices. Dead plant on the staircase going up to the rooms was a poor sight and a bit off putting and would have been better put in the bin. We had dinner and it was good pub grub at a reasonable price and there were deals on for cooked breakfast and dinners which were excellent.

The Meadows Hotel was excellent value for money. I would happily recommend this hotel to friends and family. The staff are very friendly helpful. And the price is cheap considering that we had an ensuite bathroom plus breakfast included in our 5-night stay. The breakfast isn't great, but perfectly OK (hooray for freshly toasted toast upon request). Very well situated with walking distance to everything in the city centre. Extra points for there always being someone around in the reception 24/7. The beds were very comfy. The room was surprisingly quiet as well. Nice new clean towels and sheets every day.

We really don't have anything negative to say. Perhaps the interiors are a bit worn, and the downstairs bar area prone to table-stickiness but then again this is more of a local-small-scale-friendly-hotel type of place and we weren't expecting more. :)

The design was modern and the location was nicely set away from the main touristy area, but close enough to walk. It wasn't corporate or impersonal, just a few rooms upstairs for guests. The room itself was small, but the vaulted ceilings made it seem more spacious (it was fine for what it's supposed to be). Though downstairs there was a bar, it wasn't terribly noisy. Bed was comfy, and water pressure temperature was great (hot).

It would have been nice to have a chair - the only place to set things were on the floor or the bed. There was a ledge along the window but it was narrow. Luggage had to go on the floor. If I were older, I would not have liked the height of the tub, which was quite tall. It was a bit awkward getting in/out of the shower.

First thing, they could only take cash for the room - credit card machine was broken. Wifi was down TV remote missing - they suggested standing on the end of the bed and reaching on the top of the TV to turn on/change channels. Radiator would not turn down/off - blasted out heat and made a steaming, gurgling noise all night. Window glass frosted white so you couldn't see out. Oppressive small, claustrophobic room. I needed breakfast before 8am, was told no breakfast option before 8am No receipt, only night watchman on duty when I left at 7.30am No paperwork whatsoever in the room.
